Cab in Jordan

Vinsky forum

Greetings to all forum members. Going to Jordan and Israel on my own without a car. In Jordan, we are going to travel by cab (as public transportation is rare, where available and we will take the e7go). Before that almost never used a cab (traveled alone mostly in Europe, and there is a lot of money). The question is: Is it better to take a car on the spot or contact the hotels or local travel agencies beforehand? We will often take a day or half a day. We are planning to visit castles of the desert (which is half a day at least) and Gadar and Jerash with Azraq (this is a day). Will it be possible to rent a car for a day in the street or at the station? Can you advise me on the price, is it ok to drive 55 dinars from Amman for a whole day to 3 desert castles in Jordan? And 95 for Jerash and Ghadar is too much, right? They also offered $110 for Jerash and Ghadarah, how is that? The trip will be August 15-31 for a week in Jordan and Israel. I look forward to getting answers (I just signed up myself).

I think any hotel will help arrange a cab for such trips. The difference in cost will be 10 dinars at most. And where will you be based? As a place to stay, I suggest you choose Madaba. It’s about half an hour from the airport. It’s much quieter than Amman (in terms of traffic and bustle). It is more convenient to make radial trips from there – Gadara, Jerash, the castles of the desert, Mount Nebo, Um Al Rasas, Bethany, the Dead Sea, Hammamat Ma’in, Amman, and there is a lot to see in Madaba itself. There are two hotels with Russian-speaking hosts. “Queen Ayoola” with the amazing Jires and “Maryam Hotel” with Charlie Twal, who studied in Moscow. There are several reports on the forum describing the stay at these hotels. For cab prices I can’t remember, you can see, for example, my report (given that it’s been 2.5 years). I highly recommend reading these reports: Middle East Chronicles. Jordan, Israel. 2012. Jordan and a little bit of Israel. Winter 2012. Visiting Queen Ayeolah with Sinai permith on Eid al-Adha

Was supposed to be moving from place to place. We are coming in from the south. A night in Wadi Rum,a night in Petra. a night in Madaba, 3 nights in Amman. Basically, we could do 4 in Madaba. Mariam is expensive, $57 a night for two people. I can find a hotel in Madaba for 23-39 on bookings. In Amman, I really like the Arab Tower Hotel, has anyone been there? Should I book a transfer in advance at the hotel or on the spot?

It’s on the website of the Mariam Hotel that you can see the approximate cost of a cab. But because Charlie Twal has a long-term relationship with cab drivers, it’s cheaper to take a taxi through him than to take one yourself. That is, you need to add five dinars. You can order an individual program from him, too.

I second that! Jires is a volcano of positivity and a Klondike of information, especially for people genuinely interested in the history of his country and his city. If you decide to go to Queen Ayola, say hello to Gyres.

Azraq is smarter to look at with locks – it’s in the same area. There is a bus to Jerash from Amman. Once upon a time it cost two dinars.

How to book a cab or driver with a car

Whether you will be traveling to Jordan with a group or on your own, you may need to order a cab. In this section we will put the information on how to do it. Also here you will find necessary information about possible problems related to it: language barrier, calculation, some approximate costs, other.

Cab photos of Aqaba, Jordan

In Jordan, mobile telephone services provided by local providers are quite cheap, so it is convenient to buy a starter package as soon as you arrive in the country, top it up, and use it to call home and order services. For example, call a cab. If you call a cab on your own, you can save significantly, because calling a cab from the hotel often costs much more, sometimes many times over. For example: a cab from Aqaba to Tala Bay will cost you 5 Dinars (standard rate) but you’ll have to pay 20 Dinars for the same ride at the hotel reception.

Haggle with cab drivers if it’s on the meter. Do it in advance, before the trip and be sure to negotiate the amount and currency at once, because there are unexpected nuances in the calculations!

If the cab has a meter, be sure to make sure that it is set the day rate (daytime) and whether the amount of the previous passenger “moved” . Of course, no one forbids you to leave a tip – many drivers delight tourists not only with a comfortable ride, but also with interesting stories or help with shopping, luggage, etc.

The sphere of public transport has recently become actively regulated by the state. This also applies to cab services. Read more on the page about the differences between cab services.

If you are accommodated in a hotel – take a business card in Arabic for the cab drivers. If you need to go to a certain place, ask the hotel reception desk to write the address or name in Arabic. Many cab drivers speak and read English, but it’s not a guarantee that you will get such a driver. Very few cab drivers in Jordan speak Russian. However, many of them know how to solve this problem: they call a Russian-speaking friend on their cell phone and ask him to translate your wishes. Some cab services in Jordan have Russian-speaking dispatchers.

If you are leaving the hotel (apartments) and you do not have a business card – take a picture of the hotel or any “outstanding” building nearby. It is desirable, of course, that the street sign or other memorable details got into the frame. To go back, show the cab driver the picture. You can also ask the hotel staff to mark the location of the hotel or places you want on the map. This can minimize the negotiation with the driver in a mixture of languages and gestures.
