Along with the other two German thermal spas – Bad Baden-Baden and Bad Reichenhall – it is one of the five most sought-after spas of its kind in Germany, although it is less well known among our tourists than the other two. What to see in Casablanca, Morocco

Four mineral springs were once found in Bad Kissingen, and they all have different curative properties. Each of them has its own park area and spa facilities, the names Rakoschy-Pandur, Kissiger Bittewasser, Luitpold-Sprudel and Maxbrunnen should be used as a guide. The spa facilities are equipped with drinking colonnades and are designed in the form of galleries. In addition there is a cooling tower, which has an inhalation effect thanks to the air, which is saturated with sea salt and pine scents.

Also in Bad Kissingen there are thermae, where you can undergo a variety of relaxing procedures. The K issalis Thermae has a separate thermal pool area with temperatures ranging from 32 to 38 degrees, a sauna park with more than 10 saunas with different properties, a spa area with massages, mud therapy, aromatherapy, stone therapy, and other procedures, as well as a restaurant, a children’s relaxation area, and much more. Prices for additional treatments can be found on the official website of the thermae.

Kurhaus

The center of Bad Kissingen consists of extensive park areas, which flow smoothly into one another. For example, the local rose garden with 150 varieties of the noblest flower, the rose, occupies a huge area, surrounded by elegant old villas and elegant fountains. In the spa park of the city (the so-called Kurpark ) it is worth paying attention to the architectural structure Regentenbau with its famous arcades, drinking colonnades, fountains and bridges. The neighboring park Luitpold is divided into thematic zones, for example, there is a zone of the Mediterranean with plants, flowers and trees, typical for this climatic strip. There is also an area for walking barefoot, consisting of different pavements, walking on which simulates a natural massage of the feet.

In the old part of the city is no less interesting to walk around, because there is a large concentration of monuments of different eras (predominant, of course, the Gothic). Stand out against the background of Gothic buildings lush Baroque buildings of the City Theater and Casino. Among religious buildings the Russian Orthodox Church, Maria’s Chapel, tower of the Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Jakobskirche, Evangelic Church and others are of a particular architectural interest.

Treatment in Bad Kissingen

Bad Kissingen is a town and district center in Bavaria, an old balneological gastroenterological resort in the central part of Germany. The small town is 100% the spa town: it has great weather, no industrial facilities, the percentage of green areas in the city is one of the highest in Europe. Not surprisingly, the air here is also very clean. At the end of 2021 Bad Kissingen together with Baden-Baden and Bad Ems was included in the elite list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Bad Kissingen exploits 7 springs of medicinal mineral water, the water is used externally and internally.

On the website of sanatoriums.com the health resorts of Bad Kissingen are currently not available. As an alternative we suggest you to consider our spas with similar mineral content and effects of healing waters: Karlovy Vary, Poděbrady, Druskininkai, Palanga, Kolobrzeg, Lenkorány, Montecatini Terme, Morshin, Truskavets.

Bad Kissingen Mineral Waters

In terms of their chemical composition the waters of the German spa belong to the hypothermal hydrocarbonate-chloride-sodium waters. In the treatment programs of Bad Kissingen sanatoriums and health resorts the waters of seven springs are used:

The first five springs are used in the course drinking cure, water from the last two springs is used in balneotherapy and pools are filled with it. The spring water of the Rundher Brunnen is also used for inhalations. The only thermal water of Bad Kissingen, according to the international classification, is the water of the Schönbornprudel spring (20 °C), the other mineral waters are cold. In the city center there is a covered drinking gallery, part of the springs are also brought out into the street pavilions and sanatoriums. Individual schedule of water intake is made by a doctor, but most often prescribed double intake of 200-300 ml before breakfast and dinner. Let’s dwell on each of the springs.

Rakoczi. The spring was discovered in the 12th century, and its therapeutic use was established in 1737. It is recommended for internal consumption by patients with gastric juice secretion disorders, chronic inflammatory diseases of mucous coat of digestive tract, gallbladder and gall duct diseases, gallstone disease, liver diseases, intestine atony, gout.

Pandur. It has been known since 1616; until the 18th century, it was called the “hot spring”. In chemical composition, content of carbon dioxide and indications for prescription it practically does not differ from Rakoczi.

Kissingen’s Bitter Water. The only water in this list of non-natural origin. Kissingen’s bitter water since 1856 is obtained artificially by adding a significant amount of magnesium sulfate to the Rakoczi water. Vacationers should be especially careful with the dosage of this water, as its mineralization reaches 30 g / l. Usually a single intake of Bitterwasser water does not exceed 50-100 ml., it is appointed for constipation and weakening of motor-evacuation function of the gallbladder.

Maxbrunnen. The oldest spring of Bad Kissingen, the first mention of its therapeutic properties dates back to 1520. The mineral composition of the water is similar to that of the Rakoczee and Pandur springs, but due to the lower mineralization it is prescribed more often to patients with an increased secretion of the stomach and with a faster motility of the intestines and gallbladder. It is also indicated for respiratory problems, chronic kidney and urinary tract infections, and is effective in preventing the formation of kidney stones.

Luitpoldsprudel. The spring, named after Prince Leopold II, has been used for drinking cures since the beginning of the 20th century. In 1986, during technical works, another spring was accidentally discovered and named the Luitpoldsprudel “New Spring”. While the “old” spring’s water is used in the drinking cure for disorders of gastric juice secretion, heartburn, anaemia and iron deficiency, the “new” spring has a higher mineral content (8.5 g/l) and is used externally to treat cardiovascular and bronchopulmonary diseases in the Kurhausbad health resort.

Rundher Brunnen. The spring has been used for healing baths since 1641 and was later used for inhalations. The water is not suitable for internal consumption due to high mineralization. Balneotherapy is effective for diseases of the cardiovascular and bronchopulmonary systems.

Schönbornsprudel. Warm water has been used for filling pools and baths since 1868. The combination of temperature, hydrostatic and reflexive factors allow the water to treat many diseases of the musculoskeletal system, skin, endocrine and cardiovascular systems.
