7 Tips for First Time Visitors to Nha Trang
Some great tips to help you get your bearings in Nha Trang and get started on your desired vacation sooner.
We can help you get your bearings in Nha Trang.
Nha Trang is the most famous seaside resort city in Vietnam. Many consider it the best resort in Vietnam. This is a more lively and civilized resort than Phan Thiet – Mui Ne and Phu Quoc. Nha Trang is also the center of diving in Vietnam.
This place turned into a resort back in the days when Vietnam was a French colony. The French recognized that this beautiful bay with its islands and white sand beaches was ideal for swimming and recreation and began to turn it into a resort city. American soldiers later agreed, and Nha Trang became a favorite stopping place for them during the Vietnam War.
Tip 1. How to get to Nha Trang.
The most popular way for Russian tourists is by plane. Cam Ranh Airport was built in 2004 on the site of the old American air base. It is located 30 km from the city and serves local destinations as well as flights from Russia and South Korea.
The price of cab from the airport to the city is 20 dollars.
You can use a minibus. Immediately near the baggage claim for 70,000 VND from a girl in yellow you can buy a ticket on the bus to town. It will take you to the most touristy center of Nha Trang, where most hotels are located. So you can do without a cab.
But most hotels in Nha Trang have their own transportation, so you don’t have to worry about a transfer.
Tip 2. Familiarize yourself with Nha Trang.
Nowadays, most of the tourist infrastructure in Nha Trang is located in the southern and central part of the city, while locals live mostly in the north.
The busiest place is the city center. Here are concentrated most hotels (the most expensive are located along the waterfront and immediately catch the eye), stores, bars, discos and restaurants.
One of the first things to do upon arrival in Nha Trang is to buy some local money. The best exchange rate in Nha Trang: “Pharmacy 1001” on the 3 line, the hotel “Asia Paradise”.
Nha Trang has the busiest nightlife of any resort in Vietnam. A greater number of bars, discos and night shows can only be found in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). The center of nightlife is the “Sailing Club”. There are also night markets, inexpensive restaurants, bars, massage parlors. Of course, this is not Thai Pattaya, but you can have a good time. So during the day lying on the sand and splashing in the sea, and in the evening go out on the waterfront Tran Phu Street and choose a place of entertainment to your liking.
The main attractions in Nha Trang – Cathedral, the tower of incense and the bustling Central Market.
The southern area of the city is quieter and quieter, but also probably more beautiful. Of attractions here are the Bao Dai Villas and the Museum of Oceanography. The beach and the sea in the south are cleaner, there are fewer people, and there is a large concentration of inexpensive hotels.
Street Tran Phu is the main street in the city. It stretches along the coast for almost 6 kilometers. But be careful – the traffic on it is very busy and very dangerous to cross.
The beaches in Nha Trang are not bad. An important feature of Nha Trang’s beaches is that they are almost all municipal and entry is free. Only the most expensive hotels have their own beaches. On the one hand, it is good, because it saves unnecessary costs to pay for a deck chair, but on the other hand – there can be problems with “a place in the sun. So many have to get up early.
A good beach Paragon is located in the south of Nha Trang, near the cable car station leading to Wynperl, in the cottage village An Vien. It is about 6 km from the tourist center of Nha Trang. In general, the beaches in the south of Nha Trang are somewhat cleaner and nicer than those to the north of the tourist center of the city. Despite the fact that the beaches are public, all the essentials are there – umbrellas, sun loungers, toilets, showers with fresh water. In the north, it is not everywhere. And in general, here is detailed information about the beaches of Nha Trang.
And one more tip about the beaches in Nha Trang and all of Vietnam – try not to go there from 11 to 13 hours, because the sun at this time is particularly active. By the way, the locals have a siesta at this time, life kind of slows down.
As in most resorts in Southeast Asia, the best beaches are not in the city, and the islands. Especially praised is the beach of Swallow Island – in the style of “bounty”.
What to do if the sea waves and the beach is closed? At this time we strongly advise to visit a cafe with its own rooftop pools and free sun loungers. This is ideal if you can not swim in the sea, for example because of high waves.
Hotel Hanoi Golden rooftop pool
The best places are Hotel Hanoi Golden and M Lounge bar.
In our understanding “to look around” also means to find places where you can save some money.
So: excursions in Nha Trang, which are cheaper to visit on their own – beach Doklet (bus number 3), Winperl amusement park, mud, Monkey Island, sightseeing tour (bus number 4), Yang Bay.
Seafood in Nha Trang is cheapest in the north “of the bridge” or in a cafe “Grill Garden” (buffet, quantity of food is not limited, drinks for a fee).
It is advisable to visit the central market Xom Moi. It can be reached by foot in 15-20 minutes from the center of Nha Trang. At this market you can buy not only fruits, vegetables or other foods, but also things. But still there is a small selection of clothes and shoes – in resort towns with it is difficult.
There is much more chance to buy a dress or a T-shirt of normal quality in the stores that are located next to the market building. As for fruit, the prices at the market are much lower than in the tourist quarter. For example, a kilo of dragon fruit costs about VND15-20 thousand on average, and a papaya can be found for VND10 thousand. And to come out even cheaper, buy fruits and vegetables not in the market building, but at the stalls next to it.
Another thing about food – as in Thailand, the food in small cafes is no worse than in expensive restaurants, and even much cheaper. About the food in Nha Trang read our special material.
Nha Trang map is your guide.
Tip 3. Use public transport.
Nha Trang has a pretty good public transportation system. The ticket price is about 5000-7000 VND. Buses 4 and 6 are the most useful for you, as they pass through the southern quarters. In general, the city is not very big and all local attractions can be reached on foot or by bus. It’s comfortable enough – soft seats, air conditioning and Vietnamese music. Nos. 2 and 4 go through the center, Nos. 4 and 6 go through the southern quarters.
If you are fans of independent vacation (sometimes it is cheaper), it will be interesting for you to know that you can get to the island of monkeys by public transport by yourself. First, take bus number 3 to the port for 7000 VND, there you buy a ferry ticket for 120,000 VND. And in 20 minutes – you are on the island. Sun loungers and umbrellas are included in the price. Separately, lunch if you decide to stay there (about 3-5 $), but better to be there until lunch and return to Nha Trang to eat well.
Tip 4. Two-wheelers are also very good.
You can also use mopeds and motorcycles.
It is quite convenient to travel in Nha Trang by bicycle. There are no special hills here, the terrain is flat, so it’s easy to move around. The simplest bicycle without gears will cost about $ 1 per day.
Locals use bicycles mainly after sunset, when there is less chance of getting sunburn. You are advised to take their experience into account.
You can rent a motorcycle – it costs from 6 dollars a day. But keep in mind that our rights in Vietnam are not valid and you get behind the wheel at your own risk.
As already written in useful tips about Vietnam, for the nervous system of the Russian people who are used to drive by the traffic rules, the manner of driving the locals will be very stressful.
Tip 5. Cab also will not ruin you.
As an option, to get around Nha Trang you can take a cab. To say that it is cheap in Vietnam, is not to say anything. Half of the city you can get for about 15,000 – 20,000 VND. You will get more if you catch a cab near a big hotel like Sheraton or name it where you want to go.
How do you negotiate the price? They have a very interesting meter in cabs. It counts separately the time you are going and separately the time you are standing. Well, of course, if it is on. But it’s better to go “according to the meter,” because you usually pay more without it.
Tip 6. Attention – bike cab!
You can hire a bike cab driver for the day to visit local attractions, but beware of scammers, negotiate the price in advance (usually about VND 20,000 per person). Feel free to haggle and reduce the price by half. If you bargain in English, please be aware that they often mix up 15 and 50, 16 and 60 etc. Be careful.
A word of advice from an exotic! Still think carefully before you decide to move around the city by bike cab. The driver can set you a ridiculous price, and upon arrival at your destination to increase it by 10 times. And when you start a useless discussion – like you said 50,000, where suddenly 500,000, your cabbie will start screaming like a mad dog in the street. If you do not crave such a strange extreme – at the end of the trip just give him the money and leave at a very rapid pace.
Tip 7. “Our Chinese Friends.
And one more peculiarity of a local holiday in Nha Trang. Recently Vietnam has been opened as a tourist destination for the Chinese. And they are unspeakably happy about it. They come in colonies, fill the whole beach, stores, cafes.
Not that they spoil all holiday, but without them it would be a little more pleasant. They’re not the most pleasant company, mainly due to the number and noise. Even the Vietnamese are cold to them. What’s nice, as a rule they come at the same time and in large numbers, and between arrivals there are breaks. So if you get in this window – consider yourself lucky. If not – see for yourself that Russians are considered bad tourists for nothing
Free guide for your vacation in Nha Trang
Nha Trang is the most popular tourist resort in Vietnam. It’s mostly a hotel holiday, and many people come here on a trip. I know that independent travelers turn their nose up at Nha Trang, lots of tourists, no real Vietnam, just eating cheap fruits and roasting on beaches. But they do not notice the opportunities.
How to organize your vacation:
What to do in Nha Trang:
Why Nha Trang?
First, if you’re going for less than 2 weeks, then buy a ticket is often cheaper than to go alone. The fact is that the vast majority of the cost is expensive airfare from Russia. And secondly, Nha Trang is an excellent base from which it is convenient to see the whole of central Vietnam.
If you like a comfortable tourist vacation, then you should never burden your head with the question of where to go in Vietnam – Nha Trang is the best choice.
There is a well-developed infrastructure, a lot of stores and restaurants. The food is delicious and cheap. There are many good beaches nearby.
When is the best time to go to Nha Trang?
From September to December (and sometimes give or take a month) in Nha Trang the rainy season reigns. That doesn’t mean it rains 24 hours a day. In a month, during the rainy season, 30-50% of the days water pours from the sky. Also during this time it is more windy and storms are frequent.
The most ideal month is February. The rainy season is over and the heat is not yet there. From March onwards the temperature gradually increases. From May to August there is almost no rain. And the sea is always warm.

Prices in Nha Trang
For most people the money issue is one of the most interesting, so I will not delay with it.
Nha Trang is very diverse, and your expenses will depend on your capabilities and ability to keep personal accounts. More or less comfortably you can live for $ 10 / day per person, if you do not tighten your belt, then $ 23 dollars / day, well, everything above that, then above.

How to organize your vacation in Nha Trang?
Here are 2 standard options: on your own or by reservation. It all depends on how much you’re willing to be bothered with the upcoming trip, and of course, the price.
See below for tour price statistics. Here you can choose the city of departure and find out on which dates it’s cheapest to fly. The lowest prices are usually for tours from Moscow. If you live in the eastern part of our country, then look at the prices from local tour operators. For example, it’s cheaper to buy tours to Nha Trang from Irkutsk. For the western part of the country there’s not much difference, you can buy safely online, that way you have a better chance to save money.
Look at statistics of prices from Level Travel, and I advise to buy tours in Onlinetours. In addition, the readers of travelest.ru discount to 3% for any tour. Take it!
If you want to go on your own, you need to buy airfare, insurance and book lodging (when you buy the tour will do it for you). If you fly more than 15 days, you need a visa to Vietnam.
Flights to Nha Trang
Direct flights to Nha Trang from Russia are a rare beast. You can still find them in Moscow, or fly a charter from a tour company. All other options are with connections. But this is not a bad thing, to sit in an airplane for more than 10 hours at a time – very tedious.
Take a look at the flight prices to Nha Trang in the table below. It is interactive, the default flight is from Moscow, but you can adjust everything to your liking.
Insurance to Vietnam
I advise you to take insurance in Nha Trang and in general always take out insurance before traveling. This is the case when a miser may not pay even twice, but a few dozen times more. Besides, insurance is an inexpensive thing, it all depends on the options you choose.
I take insurance either at Cherehapa or Tripinsurance. The first service has lower prices and more choices, the second has only one insurance company, but the most reliable assistance (the company with which you will cooperate abroad).
If you don’t understand anything about insurance, read on:

Where will we live?
Here, too, there are 2 standard options: rent accommodation from locals, or rent a room in a hotel, a hostel, a bed in a hostel, etc.
In the social networking site Vkontakte there are many groups where apartments are rented for long term, such as this one https://vk.com/rent.house. Just type “rent an apartment in Nha Trang” in the search.
There is also a wonderful site Airbnb.ru, where you can also rent a house, villa, or apartment from locals. In this case, we will even give you a discount of 1500 rubles for the first booking.
I look for hotel accommodation on the site Roomguru (read about the service). It has the largest selection of foreign hotels, hostels, etc.
Nha Trang has a good network of buses. Although in general in Vietnam, the vast majority of the population travels by personal transport (motorcycles), and therefore public transport is less than in Russia.
Many people go by cab. And there are three types of cabs: standard car, motorcycle and bicycle rickshaws. It is clear that the first option is the most expensive, the second – the most extreme, and the third is cheap, but slow.
In Vietnam, as in Thailand, many tourists rent motorcycles. It is cheap, on average – 300 rubles per day. Bikes are rented without a license, although it is illegal. You can freely move around the city and surroundings. Of course, if you are not afraid of the local traffic.
Read more about renting motorcycles in Nha Trang here.
What to do in Nha Trang?
Unlike Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang does not have many attractions. Perhaps the main local entertainment is the Wynperl Park. It is located on the nearest island and you can get there by cable car. There are many water parks, rides and show programs.
All the attractions here are primarily tourist attractions. If you come to Nha Trang, but you want a little more than just a beach holiday, take advantage of excursions in Nha Trang and the surrounding area. Most often take tours at hotels, the local information center, or a popular Russian travel agency “Uncle Vanya”.
Where to eat?
Read about popular Vietnamese dishes, good restaurants with both Vietnamese and European cuisine in the article What and Where to Eat in Nha Trang? There is also a file with addresses of restaurants that you can download to your smartphone and use it on the road.
Here I would also advise you to download Maps Me offline maps on your phone and download Nha Trang. It shows you the places of interest, the app gives you routes, and most importantly, it works without internet. But the GPS will show you your location. It has helped me out a lot.
What souvenirs to bring from Nha Trang?
White pearls, coffee and tea, jewelry, silk items, dried reptile tinctures, leather goods and local headgear are brought from Nha Trang.
There are 3 shopping malls and 2 markets in Nha Trang where you can buy all this stuff. For a detailed description of souvenirs, shopping tips and names of shopping malls and markets, see the article Shopping in Nha Trang
