Fisht Mountain

Svyato-Mikhailo-Afonskaya desert

Rufabgo waterfalls

You can find them in the Maikop area. Get to them by two ways: a special tourist bridge (paid), wild (free), but the road is longer, and the slope is quite steep. The waterfalls are somewhat separated from each other, some are less visible. The highest – “Grandiose” – 829 m above sea level, the lowest – “Three Brothers” – 425 m. Attractions nearby: the old Circassian Gardens and the Through Cave, etc.

The Canyon of the Belaya River (Khadzhokhskaya Gorge)

Located near the village of Kamennomostsky. The length of the area – 400 m, width – about 7 meters. There is a tourist route with paths and railings in the gorge. The formation of the canyon is due to the slow dissolution of limestone. On the descent just below you can see the aviaries with representatives of local fauna. Since the end of the 70s of the last century, the gulley is declared a natural monument.

Caucasus Biosphere Reserve

It extends over 280,000 hectares on the territory of Adygea, Karachaevo-Cherkessia, and the Krasnodar Territory. It got its present status in 1924. Mixed surface relief is rich in mountains and caves. About 1/5 of all plants are rare species. Landmark places: a grove with yews, growing here for hundreds of thousands of years, and cordon Laura, where there are many cages with deer, bison, foxes and other animals.

Big Azish Cave

Located on the border of Adygea and Krasnodar Krai. It was discovered in 1911 and became a tourist attraction in 1987. 220 out of 690 m are available for inspection and well equipped: decking, light, handrails. The five halls are quite full of stalactites and stalagmites. They grow into columns and some have separate names. It is a natural monument. To the entrance to the Small Asishin Cave is 50 m.

The Meshoko Gorge

The name is translated as “bear valley”. It is located near the village of Kamennomostsky. The height of rocks in the gorge reaches 70 meters. Grottoes and waterfalls are a special decoration of the area. Above the rocks overhang cliffs, making the picture even more picturesque. Traces of ancient fortifications, dating back to the Bronze Age, were found here. There is an abandoned quarry nearby, where limestone was mined in the past.

Bogatyrskaya glade

The tract in Maikop area, which consisted of several hundred dolmens. Most have been destroyed, about fifty have survived, are arranged in a group and form something like an alley. The rest are scattered chaotically throughout the territory. Dolmens are made of slabs and have almost identical sizes. The name came from a belief about a nation of short people with unbelievable bogatyr strength.

Savranskaya aerial ropeway.

It was launched in 2014. Its length is 1.5 km. The ascent is made almost 1 km above sea level, and the speed of the carriage is 1.1 m/s. The walk takes place among the greenery. Century-old pine trees and clean air contribute to the immersion of the local atmosphere. Above you can wander along the Main Caucasian Ridge or visit the Grotto of Wishes – an unusual through cave.

Tethys Rope Adventure Park

Full-fledged complex attraction with several kinds of programs. When buying a ticket, you can choose any one direction or pay for general access. Trolley – descent on a special device at a speed of 50 km/h. Canyoning – descent through the canyon of a mountain river. Climbing the aerial trail is suitable for fans of rock climbing. Another option is to go for a ride on the highest swing (not for the faint-hearted).

Devil’s Finger Rock

Located near the village of Dakhovskaya. Depending on the chosen time of year, tourists along the way trying local nuts, apples and other wild gifts of nature. On the way to the rock there are other curious objects, such as the Devil’s Arch. Right below Devil’s Thumb is a clearing suitable for a picnic. If you move out from the village, it takes more than three hours on foot one way.

National Museum of the Republic of Adygea

It was opened in Maykop in 1925. The way to a full-fledged museum was long, and in the first years of its existence you could manage to keep going thanks to the enthusiasm of some individuals. They gathered a rich ethnographic collection, traced in detail the role of Adygs (Circassians) in the history of the country and preserved many ancient traditions. The exhibition consists of costumes, items of folk art and everyday life, as well as archaeological finds.

Dakhov Bridge

Located in the village of the same name. It was built across the mountain river in the early 20th century. It was built by rebel Cossacks, who were not exiled to Siberia and were left in Adygea for hard work. The bridge was actively used, but it is well preserved. To prevent destruction and preserve an important historical object, a modern structure of concrete and metal was built next to it.

Arboretum in the village Goncharka

It occupies an area of 150 hectares in the Giaginsky district. It bears the name of the chairman of the collective farm Bukreev, who initiated the creation of the park in 1970. Initially planted only local trees, and then received seedlings from Sochi arboretum and began experimenting with exotics. At the moment more than 350 species grow side by side. There is a rock garden in the Central zone.

Maikop City Park

It was formed in the center of the city in 1966. It has not been cared for for a long time, so at the end of the noughties it had to be extensively reconstructed to give the recreation area a proper look. In addition to the benches, ornamented tiles, snack outlets, and cafes that have appeared, there are rides and a large outdoor pool that is filled in the summer. One of the local beauties is the “Clock” – a fountain with light-music.

Nature Museum of the Caucasus Reserve

Located in the village Guzeripl since 1965. Entrance is paid and first one must go through the main post of the reserve. On the way one can meet dolmens and monuments to warriors. The museum is divided into halls. The first tells about the creation of the reserve. The next deals with local flora and fauna: there are stuffed animals, three-dimensional models, diagrams and reconstructed small fragments of different natural zones.

Bolshoi Tkach Mountain

It is situated on the border between Adygeya Republic and Krasnodar Region. Its absolute height is more than 2.3 thousand meters. Its name is translated as “the eternally young god”. It is a part of the natural park of the same name and together with it is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The mountain range looks like an uneven jagged wall, the slopes of which are covered with greenery from below, while closer to the tops are bare.

Ammonite Valley

This monument of nature can be seen in detail if you go down to the Belaya River between two settlements: Kamennomostskiy and Tulskiy. Ammonites are fossils, left from ancient mollusks, which became extinct along with dinosaurs. Their spiral-shaped shells of impressive size are scattered everywhere. There are other shaped stones, reminding: once Adygea was hidden under the waters of the ocean.

Granite Gorge

It is located near the village of Dakhovskaya. Its length is about 4 km, and its width is about 200 m. There are many places of interest in the area, such as the Golden Spring or the Trident Mountain. To view the gorge is more convenient from one of the natural viewing platforms. Especially beautiful here during the blooming of chestnuts and barberry. In winter, part of the rough stream freezes, which also looks spectacular.

Cossack Stone

It is difficult to pass by this sight of the village Kamennomostsky because of its size: traveling around, you have to go around the stone. The name is explained by one of the legends: the Cossacks moved the rock during the division of land to take more territory. Another name is Maiden: supposedly a girl, disguised as a dzhigit, was the only one who could jump on the rock on her horse.

Sahrai Waterfalls

There are several of them (Mamryuk, Mankin’s Noise, etc.) and are located near the village of Ust-Suhrai. The most famous of the group is called Rift. The area around is suitable for gatherings, there are gazebos. During the summer, there are ticket offices, and one has to pay to see the waterfall, otherwise, the entrance is free, but the water in the lake formed by the waterfall is cold and you can not swim.

Monk Mountain

Belongs to the Maikop area. The height is about 500 meters. The top is flat, which distinguishes the natural object on the general background. There is a spring and grottoes, as well as the remains of ancient masonry and dolmens. The outlines of the mountain from a certain angle resemble the face of a wrinkled stern old man, so it was chosen such a name. Another legend says that this image was carved by a monk, thus making amends for his sins.

The Rock of the Schism.

Location – the village of Hamyshki. The height of the walls – up to 100 m, the width of the rift – from 2 to 8 m. The geological monument is visible among the forest. After the earthquake many years ago, a huge crack went through the whole rock, and now one of the parts has moved away from the base and looks like a separate formation. The Bzykha flows below, and waterfalls up to 5 m high have formed on it.

Lake Psenodah.

This lake occupies a part of the Lago-Naki plateau. Its outlines resemble a wide smile. Its length is about 150 m and width is about 70 m. The average depth is less than 1 m, though there is a deep sinkhole closer to the south-western part. Through the intermediary springs Psenodakh is fed by waters from Fisht. Since 2012, a special protective regime is imposed near the lake, in order not to let the hikers finally ruin the local ecology.

Canyon of Tsitse River

Most often hikers build a route from the lake Psenodah. There are few tourists, as it is not easy to get to the place. To look around and take beautiful pictures, you have to move directly along the riverbed of the Tsitse. For this reason, it is better to come to the canyon at the end of summer, when the water level is lowered, and it is still warm. Along the banks of a lot of boulders, there are grottoes, and the snowflake even partially overlaps the current.

Khadzhokh quarry

A place of former extraction of limestone and other rocks near the village of Kamennomostsky. The bottom of the abandoned quarry is covered with small springs, which eventually formed the Red Lake. The water is clean and invariably cold. And the specific color comes from the rocks and fossil outcrops. In the vicinity is a traditional tourist race. Convenient location attracts not only tourists, but also locals.

Pshehsky waterfall

It was formed between the mountains Fisht and Pshekha-Su. Outwardly divides a single mountain massif into parts, but flows down the rocks, covered with moss, not deepening into the fault. Caucasus Reserve

State Natural Biosphere Reserve named after Kh. G. Shaposhnikov is one of the oldest protected areas in the Western Caucasus. It was founded back in 1924 and occupies the territory of three regions of the Russian Federation of the Republic of Adygea, the Krasnodar Territory and the Karachaevo-Cherkessia Republic. The proximity to the warm Black Sea created several different climatic zones in this biosphere reserve, where about 3,000 plant species grow. More than 30 specimens of flora are included in the Red Book. In addition, there are up to 400 representatives of the animal world, many of which are also on the verge of extinction.

Dakhovskaya Cave

Of significant interest to guests of Adygea is the main attraction of Dakhovskaya village – a cave in the mountain range Una-Koz. It was studied by the famous archaeologist A.A. Formozov, who found traces of human settlements in it, in the Paleolithic era. The entrance to the cave is quite small, measuring only 70 cm. But inside it is divided into several huge halls, the cultural layer of which suggests that people lived here before the Middle Ages.

The name of this settlement comes from the stone crossings over the Belaya River that once existed here. The best way to admire the Khadzhok Gorge and its rumbling waters is from the top of the suspension pedestrian bridge. Also this place is extremely popular with rafters, and in the village of Kamennomostsky you can find all the necessary equipment and instructors for rafting through the canyon.

Rufabgo waterfalls

One of the best attractions of Adygea is located in the canyon of the brook Rufagbo. In total, there are more than ten waterfalls along its course, five of which: Cascade, Three Brothers, Heart of Rufabgo, Shnurok and Noise, are accessible to all tourists, and to view the rest of the objects will need special equipment and mountaineering skills. This place is especially beautiful during heavy rains, when a calm stream turns into a huge rumbling stream. Actually, Rufabgo means “ferocious” in Adygean. The huge building with an azure dome and four minarets was erected in 2000 at the expense of the Arab Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr al-Qasimi. St. Michael Athos Zakubanskaya hermitage

Orthodox monastery on the outskirts of the village of Pobeda, near the town of Maikop. It was erected by hieromonk Martiry from 1877 on voluntary donations of the Cossacks. During the Soviet years, the monastery was closed and its churches destroyed. Since 2001 the hermitage was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church, and today is fully restored Trinity Church.

Monument “Unity and Concord”

A memorial complex of more than 100 square meters, it was opened in 2013. The monument is made in the form of a classic Adyghe hearth, and it depicts different scenes from the history and legends of this region.

Khadzhokh Dolmen

One of the most mysterious architectural monuments in the republic. Scientists still put forward different hypotheses about the origin of dolmens on the territory of Adygea and their purpose. Khadzhokhsky dolmen was founded approximately in the III millennium BC, most likely for cult rituals. Its collection contains more than 270,000 items familiarizing tourists with the culture and customs of the peoples living in Adygea. It includes a variety of pictures, sculptures, jewelry, weapons, clothes and household items, as well as banners of Adygei tribes – Natukhai, Shapsug and Ubykh.

One of the main attractions of the dendrological park in the village Goncharka. The museum was founded by the chairman of the collective farm in the 1980s, and it was based on the stones left after the road construction.
