Swallow’s Nest

Swallow's Nest (photo)

Unlike most other places of interest in Yalta, the history of the Swallow’s Nest can be traced back many centuries. It began in the late nineteenth century with the construction of wooden house, called Swallow’s Nest by its hostess. However, later the building was demolished, and by 1912, it was replaced by a miniature Gothic castle built by order of a Baku oil industrialist. It is this architectural masterpiece that is now known as the Swallow’s Nest, although it has changed slightly since the 1927 earthquake and subsequent reconstruction.

In the twentieth century the building was empty for a long time, because it was in disrepair, and after the new reconstruction it became open to the public again. Recently it opened an art exhibition dedicated to the famous master of landscapes Arkhip Kuindzhi.

The Swallow’s Nest has repeatedly been the object of close attention of cinematographers because of its amazing beauty. Here were filmed such masterpieces of the Soviet cinema as “Ten Negrites”, “Mio, my Mio”, and “The Blue Bird”.

Swallow’s Nest is a place with an amazing atmosphere that is worth experiencing in person.

Foros Park

Foros Park (photo)

Foros Park was founded in the 19th century. But originally it was just a deserted area with one fountain. In 1885, the new owner of these lands, a merchant Alexander Kuznetsov, decided to completely transform the park and 5-6 years later he achieved the desired, having spent a huge amount of money. A large number of rare plants not growing in this area, but able to adapt, were brought into the park.

The area of the current park is 70 hectares, of which 30 are cultural plantations and the other 40 is a large forest park. The park has more than 350 species of trees and shrubs. Of particular interest is the Paradise corner – six lakes, located on different levels, connected to each other by a small channel.
