Cattedrale di San Lorenzo is the Cathedral of the Diocese of Genoa, dedicated to St. Lawrence. The temple is located near the Ducal Palace and Piazza de Ferrari. The Cathedral is famous for its legend that there used to be a temple on its site, founded by St. Lawrence himself in the III century.

The architecture of the cathedral is characterized by its asymmetry. On the sides of the facade there are two towers of very different structures. The project was originally intended to be symmetrical, but one of the towers was never completed and a gallery was built on top of it in the XV century. The right bell tower is finished in Renaissance style, and has seven bells. The facade is decorated with three portals, the work of French craftsmen. On the sides of the stairs of the temple there are stone lions.

The interior of the cathedral is notable for the columns of the XIII century, and frescos of an unknown Byzantine master of the XIV century. In the chapel you can see statues of prominent Italian masters of the XV-XVI centuries.

The main attractions of the cathedral are of course the chalice that is said to have been on the table during the Last Supper and the relics of St. John the Baptist brought back from the Crusades in 1098.
