Top 10 ski resorts in Switzerland

Switzerland is considered by many to be the perfect place for a winter vacation. The country is known as one of the trendsetters in winter sports, and as the home of many European and world champions.

Top 10 ski resorts in Switzerland

Due to the fact that the Alps occupy about two-thirds of the country, Switzerland has become a true paradise for skiers. Magnificent slopes, modern ski elevators, their high capacity, lack of queues and considerable height of the location of resorts guarantee a great skiing from November to April, and in some places even in summer.

To determine the best resorts in Switzerland were analyzed several hundred places. Considered the availability of slopes for beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders, spa complexes, interesting excursions, entertainment arers-ski, shopping opportunities and recreation with children. On this basis, we have chosen the 10 best ski resorts in Switzerland, which are also some of the most beautiful places in the world!

1. Zermatt

This is an emblematic resort for Switzerland, included in the list of Best of the Alps . It is located on the slope of the Matterhorn, and it is the best place to explore the legendary peak. The slopes are more suitable for advanced skiers, but there are also pistes for beginners, and you can hike around the mountain on foot and on snowshoes. Here you can enjoy not only the beauty, but also clean air, as cars are not allowed to enter the resort. You can get here only by train and then by electric car or horse-drawn carriage – whichever suits your mood better. During your stay you can visit the restaurant of Mont Cervine Palace that has been serving guests for more than 130 years, or try fondue in the cozy Whymperstube on the main street among the old “chicken houses”.

Where to see in Batumi

First of all the largest thermal spa in the Alps, so it is best to combine your skiing vacation with a health holiday and buy a Ski&Spa pass. For the same reason it is the best place for a family trip with children. There are only 50 km of slopes, but they are challenging and interesting, so you will not get bored. There is a fan park for snowboarders, as well as 25 km of trails for cross-country skiing. But the most pleasant thing here, of course, are the springs and baths. The whole family should go to Burgerbad , take a ride on the slide and a soak under the whirlpool (and once a month in Burgerbad organizes breakfast with champagne). To get rid of your worries, visit the Linden Alpentherme: The thermal baths, the Welsh sauna village with saunas, massages and pools, the Roman-Irish baths are all worth spending at least half an hour in.

3. Villar

A traditional ski resort, ideal for beginners, for holidays with children and for those who want to combine skiing and excursions. Children are particularly taken care of in this resort – there is always a large selection of equipment for children and care products available, and there are several excellent ski schools above Bretay glade, and there are also toboggan runs for “non-skiers”. A half-hour drive from the resort is the town of Lavet-les-Bains, where you should spend a lazy morning enjoying spa treatments. And forty minutes away is Bernard Cave’s winery, which delivers wines to Switzerland’s best restaurants. If you’re into cross-country skiing, it’s worth a trip to the shepherds’ village, where the 17th century houses are still intact. And in February, the resort hosts the Villars Night Show with fireworks and instructor demonstrations.

4. 4. St. Moritz

One of the oldest and highest resorts has long been a symbol. It is the largest concentration of five-star hotels in the Swiss Alps. The most discerning members of society come here for the socialites, the excellent shopping and the gourmet delights. The resort has twice hosted the Olympics, and still hosts many important and spectacular competitions. If you want to get in on the social action, just book a room at one of the luxurious hotels (be prepared to pay the appropriate price, of course). And the drinks themselves are often available for tasting right by the pistes. There are suitable routes for all levels of skiers, but fans of freeride skiing will be especially pleased with the legendary Diavoletsa zone.

Milan, Italy: history, sights, shopping

5. Davos

This resort is known for the World Economic Forum, and during its days (late January – early February) is better not to appear here. But after the World Economic Forum there are a lot of opportunities for skiers of all levels. Firstly, this is one of the best places in Switzerland for snowboarders. Secondly, experienced skiers will love the off-piste routes in Picha and Madriza. Thirdly, several times a week the resort organizes night skiing. And if you come with children, it is worth spending time not only skiing, but also a ride in a sled pulled by horses, build igloos in Parsenne sector and spend the evening at the city skating rink.

6. Grindewald

One of the most picturesque resorts in Europe. From here you can easily reach the famous wonders of nature: the village Interlaken, where two lakes meet, and the “roof of Europe”, the Jungfraujoch mountain, which has the highest railroad line in Europe, and where you can visit the palace, carved out in the Aletsch glacier. Grindewald is on the list of the Best of the Alps and is considered very fashionable. But it is difficult to find luxury hotels, and the best option is to stay in apartments or chalets. In this resort will be comfortable to ski for beginners, and thrill seekers can quickly get to the neighboring resort of Wengen and appreciate the legendary black track Laubernhorn, host of the World Cup.

7. Le Diablere

Despite the formidable name, it is an idyllic village for those who like economical and quiet secluded vacation. There are no luxury hotels or famous nightclubs, but there is a traditional Alpine atmosphere, hearty cuisine and several areas for skiing, mostly for beginners. But the local slopes are very beautiful and not crowded, such as in the sector of Le Merey. In addition, the resort hides a valuable treasure: the famous restaurant designed by architect Mario Botta. Here it is a must to dine while admiring the view of the Alpine peaks and the Devil’s Skittle. It used to be believed that the devil often played skittles here, which explains the frequent rock falls. An interesting rock serves as a kind of confirmation of the legend.

The Margrave's Opera House

8. Gstaad

This place on the border of German and French parts of Switzerland has a unique atmosphere, and not only because of the mixture of cultures and languages. Gstaad is considered one of the most fashionable areas for recreation, here you can often meet the stars. At the same time it is very natural, devoid of “show off”, and instead of a luxury hotel is more like a romantic fairy tale village. If you want to feel like a member of a prestigious private club, this is the place for you. This is a very comfortable place for children and unsure skiers. Extreme skiers will find it hard to have fun here, but snowboarders will find a lot to do. One of the main pluses of this place is the food. There are more than a hundred restaurants, many of them Michelin-starred, so there is something for everyone. Start your gastronomic tour with the resort’s most famous hotel, the Gstaad Palace, and its restaurants, Le Grill, Le Restaurant and Gildo’s Restaurante.

9. Verbier

The best place for snowboarders and freeriders, as well as for fans of the “incendiary” lifestyle. The region’s fame was brought to it by Montfort Peak: not everyone has the guts to descend from its summit, but an elevator ride to appreciate the panorama is a must. From here, you can see almost all the places described above: from the Matterhorn Pyramid to Mont Blanc and the Jungfrau peaks. Lovers of scenic routes are especially recommended to explore the places around Lake Lac de Vaud and the slope of La Chaux. And after skiing – have fun at the parties, which are hosted by DJs in the bar of the hotel Farinet . Surprisingly, this resort is not very suitable for beginners, but is quite suitable for companies or families who are not all into mountain sports: there are many other activities.

Paris is the city of lovers, France

10. Crans-Montana

Switzerland’s sunniest ski resort is perfect for beginners and for those who value relaxed relaxation more than extreme pistes. Aprés-ski is perhaps valued here even more than the skis themselves. Crans-Montana is the ideal place to sunbathe on hotel beds, enjoy a spa treatment, dine at restaurants (there are more than eighty-two!) and buy the latest equipment (and not only): the resort claims to be the best place for shopping in the Alps. However, there is a ski highlight: do not miss the opportunity to ride in the evening on a special track length of 3.5 km, it is not found everywhere.
