Kwai Reserve, Botswana

Program of the tour

Day 1. Kwai Reserve

Arrival in Maun. Flight to Kwai.

In the valley of the River Kwai stretches one of the most famous nature reserves of Botswana, which is home to many African animals such as: elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, wildebeest, hippos, etc.

Accommodation at Tuludi Lodge . The word “Tuludi” is used by Tswana speakers to refer to the color of the leopard’s spots. The tented camp is located in the private nature reserve Kwai. There are a total of seven tents, each the size of a small summer house. Tents with sailcloth roofs stand on wooden platforms in the shade of lead trees – these, by the way, grow only in southern Africa, very authentic. Each tent comes with a small private pool, an outdoor shower, a regular shower with a full bathroom, and a terrace where you can spend evenings with a glass of wine, listening to the sounds of the savannah.

Kwai Reserve, Botswana

Day 2. Safari in the Kwai Reserve

The Kwai Reserve in the Okavango Delta is one of Botswana’s best kept secrets. The nature here is very characteristic of the Okavango: vast floodplains and meadows, interspersed with patches of forest, are punctuated by a dense network of channels, arms and pools, with lilies fluttering on the surface. Local communities are dedicated to conservation, and there are very few visitors, allowing you to make the most of the wildlife.

There are many hippos and crocodiles in the rivers and swampy pools of the River Kwai, and on the shore you can find big cats gracefully stretching out on the branches of trees. During the jeep safari are sure to show antelope: chalaya horse, kudu or impala, along with them – giraffes and zebras, many elephants and buffalo, as well as a variety of birds – from the pale owl to lilac-breasted blue-crowned grouse. Kwai also boasts rare species such as the wild African dog, servals, honey-eaters, and the elusive and rare pangolins.

Day 3. Moremi .

Breakfast. Flight to Moremi. Moremi National Park covers about 20% of the Okavango Delta. This is the first reserve created in South Africa by an African tribe on its own territory. Here you can see elephants, buffalo, giraffes, lions, leopards, hyenas, wild African dogs, antelope of various species and a large number of waterfowl.

Accommodation at Xigera Safari Lodge. Located in the western part of the Moremi Game Reserve overlooking the green floodplains of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Okavango Delta, Xigera Safari Lodge offers guests an unforgettable safari experience on both land and water. The place is a unique example of African art, culture and creativity, and at the same time a gallery of contemporary African designers.

Moremi Reserve is part of the Okavango Delta, covering the central and eastern regions. These areas are often referred to as the “Garden of Eden”: savannah, floodplains, lagoons, dense forests (where leopards and wild dogs hide) and winding rivers.

Safaris in Moremi are ideal for those who have come to see the Big Five of Africa. Elephants, hippos, buffalo, blue gnu antelope, impala, red lechwe, and giraffes all love to swim in the waters of Moremi. During your safari don’t forget to look up: the leopards are shy and hide in the tree crowns.

Safari in Botswana

Safari in Botswana has always been an expensive treat, because there are almost no cheap camps and lodges in the national parks and reserves, and travel between them is overwhelmingly by light aircraft, because they are located in remote areas of the country where there are no permanent roads. Not without reason, the small town of Maun is considered the safari capital of the world. From here dozens of light aircrafts fly daily to Botswana’s national parks and reserves: the Central Kalahari, the Okavango Delta, the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, Savuti and Chobe.

Safari tours in Botswana are radically different from other countries in all aspects: the organization, the conduct, the emotional side. In East African countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda) and Namibia you are provided with personal guide and transportation for the whole trip, which makes safari tours in these countries as comfortable as possible. The main thing is to meet your guide and then everything will be solved by him acting as a driver, guide, ranger and trekker in one person. In Botswana, your tour consists of accommodation in campsites and lodges and flights between them.

The airstrip of the Moremi Game Reserve

The high cost of living is due to the almost exclusive level of full inclusive services (Botswana’s version of ultra all inclusive). This includes not only accommodation, but also all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as afternoon tea), drinks (refreshments and spirits except for premium brands, including sundowner and an evening gathering by the fire), all kinds of safari (jeep safari, walking safari, mokoro and motor boats, optional night safari), laundry services, park fees. Agree, none of this can be budget-friendly.

Natural Selection Jack

Natural Selection Jack’s Camp, Botswana

Not so long ago the slogan for most lodges and camps in Botswana was “Luxury to spoil” – “corrupting luxury”.

Add to this the flights, the cost of which ranges from $200 to $450 per person per shoulder, depending on the distance.

As a result, we get the cost of a safari tour in Botswana for 8 – 10 days with a visit to the three parks (Kalahari, Okavango and Chobe) ranging from 4.5 – 5 thousand USD and up to infinity, depending on the level of exclusivity of the selected camps and lodges.

The minimum cost, which we were able to obtain without loss of quality, using specials, – 3 550 U.S. dollars in our program “Unforgettable Safari in Botswana and Victoria Falls,” including the Kalahari Desert. including the Kalahari Desert, Bushmen, the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls.
