Holidays in Iceland

Iceland

An island state in the North Atlantic Ocean, Iceland is probably one of the most fantastic countries on the globe. The westernmost state in Europe, where the northernmost capital of the world. And the nature here is also the most wonderful and unique. Nowhere else is such a cluster of volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, natural hot springs. Huge lava fields and snow-capped peaks, waterfalls and northern lights, numerous fjords and cliffs of the picturesque coastline…snow-capped peaks, huge lava fields, waterfalls and northern lights. The coastline, rugged with numerous fjords and cliffs, draws congregations of all kinds of birds.

Holidays in Iceland attract travelers from all over the world. Despite the harsh name, Iceland, in fact, has a fairly mild climate, thanks not only to the warm Gulf Stream, but also to its internal volcanic warmth.

The territory of Iceland is a volcanic plateau, dotted with mountain peaks, steeply sloping to the ocean, forming a huge number of fjords. The total area of Iceland is about 103 thousand sq km, 11.8 thousand sq km of which are covered by glaciers. The island was born about 20 million years ago in a volcanic eruption and has been steadily growing and changing ever since.

Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is a small town, essentially the only one on the island. The founder of Reykjavik Ingólfur Arnarson called the city “Smoke Bay” not coincidentally, because here you can see the amazing fogs that envelop the capital of Iceland in an impenetrable white veil.

Active Recreation in Iceland

In West Iceland, between Reykjavík and the Klopningsnes Peninsula, nestled at the bottom of the Western Fjords, is one of the country’s most popular natural parks, Husafetl. Geothermal springs, picturesque river Kalda, birch groves and lava fields are the place where Icelanders prefer to spend their summer vacations. Tourists who choose a tour to Iceland and prefer active rest stop in Husafetla: there is a swimming pool and a golf course, horse riding tours and fishing, numerous hiking trails and fascinating landscapes.

East Iceland is home to Iceland’s longest lake and largest forest, about which the people of the country themselves jokingly say, “If you get lost, just stand on your feet!” Eastern Iceland is a fjord-riddled coastline, snow-capped mountain tops, and small farms. One of the most popular hiking trails here is from the northern village of Borgarfjordur Eistri to the southern village of Breiddalsvik through the town of Seydisfjordur, where there is a ferry terminal linking Iceland with the Faroe Islands and Norway.

Northern Iceland consists of eight peninsulas separated by bays and fjords. The northern capital of Akureyri, the famous Lake Miwatn and the Jokulsaarglufur National Park are the main attractions of this part of the island.

The calling card of Southern Iceland, undoubtedly, may be considered the glacier Vatnajökull, the largest in the world after the surface of Antarctica and Greenland. The glacier also gave birth to another local landmark, the glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon.

The highlands of Central Iceland are virtually unpopulated. The roads here are best traveled in four-wheel-drive jeeps, admiring the mesmerizing scenery, devoid of any signs of civilization.
