Goodlens in Mauritius

EXTREME RECREATION PARK.

A place about which there is not much information on the Internet. The Mauritius Extreme Leisure Park or La Vallée des Couleurs Nature Park opened only recently, in the second half of 2021. For this reason, you will not find stories about this park in eagle and tails and other travel shows. Maybe in two years, and not for sure.

Extreme recreation park: what is this place

In fact, this park has been operating since 1998. But in the form in which you will see it appeared only in 2021. First of all, it is a nature park, which occupies 45o hectares of land. It is located in the central part of Mauritius right in the jungle on the slopes of the mountains. This makes its topography unique.

Useful to know:

Mauritius Extreme Leisure Park also has colored sands to see. Who does not know, one of the main attractions of the island of Mauritius is the colored sands in the Park Chamarel, read a detailed report about them at the link.

Here are some interesting facts:

  • The colored sands of Chamarel are called the seven-color sands because there are 7 shades in this rock, from red to purple. The park opened in 1960.
  • And the dunes at Extreme Recreation Park are 23-color sands. This park has been in operation since 1998.
  • In fact – it’s an absolutely identical rock. And visually it looks the same. But the Chamarel sands seemed more Instagrammable to me.

Here, pure marketing worked. When they opened the park for extreme recreation, they decided to call the sands 23-colored, to attract all tourists to themselves. Like Chamarel has only 7 colors and we will have 23.

Useful to know:

I advise everyone to visit both parks: people go to Chamarel not only for the sands, but also for the insanely beautiful 100-meter waterfall. And the entrance is not expensive. And in the extreme theme park, first of all they come for the extreme entertainment, not the sands. Both parks are located near each other, it is easy to visit them in one day by car.

How to get to the extreme recreation park?

If you have read other articles of this guide, you know that you can get anywhere in Mauritius by bus, but with a lot of transfers and very long.

I won’t even tell you how to get there by cab or car. You open the navigator, type in the coordinates and go. Within an hour you can reach even the most remote part of the island.

I will tell you how to get to the park from the capital Port Louis. And how to get to the capital, you know, almost any bus goes there.

    • From Port Louis (Victoria Square) take bus 162 to the stop Forest Side.
      • The Forest Side coordinates are -20.327641, 57.528950.
      • The coordinates for the village are -20.479676, 57.482614.

      Useful to know:

We all understand that the bus option is for very strong-minded people. Yes and 7 hours just on the road in a day is very steep. So those who can’t afford to rent a car, e.g. have no driver’s license, take a cab. I advise instead of a cab to take a car with a guide for the whole day, who will drive along your route and recommend a lot of interesting locations on the way. And for the money it will be like a cab.

On your itinerary. It’s a great alternative to a cab. Well at the link, there are over 100 activities in Mauritius with guides
      • This part of the island is home to 80% of all the coolest attractions. It’s convenient to combine the extreme recreation park with visits to other cool places as well.

Extreme Recreation Park: activities for an extra fee

Below I will tell you about all the activities that await you in the park. As well as give advice on what to choose and what it is better not to pay for. There will be my personal evaluation of each activity, and you decide for yourself whether it is interesting for you or not.
