Cancun, which used to be a sleepy fishing village on the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), pulled its “lucky ticket” in the 1970s. Today it is one of the most developed resort towns of the Caribbean coast, with first-class five-star hotels, most of which are located along the narrow island “appendix”, separated from the mainland by 9 kilometers of clear waters. The elite offshoot is so called – Zona Hoteles – and is a long and narrow 25-kilometer sand spit. The best time to visit is the “dry” season from November to April.
