Top Five Beaches in the Algarve
When planning trips and excursions to the Algarve area, questions often arise about choosing a beach vacation destination. The requests are very different, from secluded to active holidays, with all the facilities, sports equipment rentals, awnings, sunbeds, etc. In my recommendation, I have tried to take into account all possible aspects of beach tourism. It is very difficult to choose among more than 150 beaches.
Praia da Marinha
Marinha beach is on the list of the best beaches in the world and in the top 10 best beaches in Europe. It is rightly considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve and has been awarded the Golden Flag. Surrounded by a beautiful rocky coastline, the beach with pure yellow sand is washed by the waters of the Atlantic. The purity and quality of the water is so high that you can see the bottom perfectly, which makes it possible to get a great pleasure from scuba diving. The second name of the beach is Golden. After seeing the beautiful views of the coast, the descent down the stairs to the beach follows. When planning a visit to the beach, keep in mind that the descent with small children can be difficult. For tourists with mobility problems visiting the beach is not possible. On the beach there is a restaurant, toilet and water sports rentals. There is no bar, lifeguards, showers, umbrellas and sun loungers, medical post and public transport. There is a parking lot at the entrance to the beach.
Praia da Dona Ana.
Dona Ana beach is a beautiful beach near Lagos in the Algarve known for its clear waters and impressive rocky rim. The sea here is calm because of the rock formations of Ponta da Piedade. The calm and clear water has made the beach popular with snorkelers. When planning a visit to the beach, please note that the descent to the beach is via a staircase of 93 steps, and it is closed to holidaymakers with mobility problems. The beach has a Blue Flag, lifeguard service, restaurant, bar, toilet, fresh water shower, sun loungers and water sports equipment rental. Car parking is limited.
Praia do Carvalho.
Carvalho beach is a beautiful small beach near Lagoa in the Algarve, known for its stunning views and clean water. It belongs to the quiet and never crowded beaches since visitors are mainly locals and tourists from nearby villages. And even on the beach settled diving enthusiasts. All the unique qualities of the beach are that it is only possible to get here through a single tunnel, which in turn makes it closed to people with impaired mobility. The negative characteristics of the beach should include the fact that there is no beach infrastructure. It is practically a “wild” beach, but very beautiful.
Praia da Rocha
Rocha beach is one of the most famous and main beach near Portimão. The magnificent beach surrounded by beautiful rock formations, the transparent water, the soft and clean sand, the presence of a fortress fortress from the beginning of the XVII century and the good references of the “pioneers” of beach holidays have created special opportunities for the birthplace of mass tourism in the Algarve. Today, the nearby town has come to the beach and practically merged with it to form a beach-town complex that, during the summer months, is bustling all day long. The beach stretches for a kilometer along the coast and on it laid a wooden path, which is very convenient to get to any corner of the beach and walk around at any time of day. The beach has a Blue Flag and therefore has all the beach infrastructure, creating the perfect conditions for a great holiday. The beach is accessible to holidaymakers with mobility problems.
Praia dos Tres Irmaõs
Beach of Three Brothers is a beach near the town of Alvor, known and named for the rock formation – “Three Brothers” with many caves to explore. Great for family vacations. Clean turquoise water and soft sand made this beach a favorite for fans of scuba diving. The beach does not belong to the crowded and consists of four coves, each with its own beach and a large number of caves. Nearby, on the west side, there is a restaurant that serves as boundary to the other beach “Praia de Alvor”, formed by long sand dunes and which is the exact opposite of the beach of the Three Brothers. From the town of Alvor there is a wooden walkway of three kilometers, passing through the reserve “Rio de Alvor” to the beach and is very convenient for promenade. By the way, it is called “Promenade de Alvor”. Both beaches are Blue Flag beaches with a full beach infrastructure capable of satisfying any holidaymaker’s wishes. The beaches are accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Algar de Benagil
The beach and cave Algar de Benagil is a special offer for the extreme and adventurous. Near the town of Benagil in the rocky formation of the coast there is a huge and beautiful cave with a beach inside, where due to the hole in the dome the sunlight penetrates and you can even sunbathe. The uniqueness of this beach is that in the normal sense, it is inaccessible. The cave can only be reached by swimming or by renting a boat/kayak. Believe me, a sea of adrenaline is provided. Emerald water and golden glow of the stone walls inside the cave with the water and the beach is an indescribable experience, which will remain with you for the rest of your life.
These are the beaches, which, in my opinion, and it is certainly subjective, can satisfy your wishes. Believe me, all along the coastline of the Algarve, from Villa Real Santo Antonio to Sagres (200 km), you can find a beach for any, even the most refined taste. The choice is always yours!

Boavista Golf & Spa – Bela Colina Village
The 5-star holiday complex Bela Colina Village is located in a quiet area on the outskirts of Lagos, within the Boavista Golf and Spa Resort. It offers an 18-hole golf course. Everything was lovely – cozy cottages, the price is throwaway, apparently, given the low season.
Falésia Hotel – Adults Only
This hotel is surrounded by a large garden. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the Falésia beach, a 5-minute drive away. They understand the hospitality business. Right from check in Euginio Fernendes was welcoming with a smile and was very friendly to everything in the hotel was perfect. the rooms are large and very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent, so much variety! The staff are so friendly, seems like they enjoy working here.
Vila Odysseus
Vila Odysseus has an outdoor pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. Fantastic location, amazing view, fantastic pool, and the apartment was very cozy. Watched quite a few amazing sunsets, there are small country-roads around the place through the orange orchards. We got tips for good nearby places from the host, and she helped us with anything we needed. There are plenty of sun-beds around the pool, it’s very quiet and just nice. There’s also a huge golf field within sight, so it all gives you a good vibe, that “life is beautiful” feeling.
Endless Summer Surf House
The Endless Summer Surf House is located in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentin Coast Natural Park, in the village of Aljezur, less than 5 minutes’ drive from Arrifan beach. I loved this place. Ludo created a cool and relaxed atmosphere to stay and meet other people. The accommodation and facilities like kitchen, living room, garden, and pool are great. I have stayed a couple of times and looking forward to staying again.
